Saifi soomro’s painting was discovered through a tv drama, aired on private channel.
Artist Saifi Soomro was reunited with his long-lost paintings in a ceremony at Karachi’s historic Frere Hall, where Senior Director KMC Sports and Culture Raza Abbas officially handed them over.
Soomro, an artist from Daharki in Ghotki district, had created the paintings in 2016 and sent them to Frere Hall for an exhibition in 2017.
However, after the exhibition, he was informed that his paintings had disappeared, leaving him unable to retrieve them.
In an unexpected twist, Soomro recently saw his missing artwork displayed in a scene from a drama ‘Kabhi mein kabhi tum’ aired on a private television channel, which was filmed at the Frere Hall gallery.
This discovery prompted him to raise the issue on social media, which led to the formation of a two-member committee to investigate the matter.
The committee’s report, submitted to Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, clarified that the paintings were never truly missing.
Instead, they had remained at Frere Hall since 2017 and were frequently moved between exhibitions.
The misunderstanding arose because the artist had not actively sought to reclaim his works.
During the ceremony, Raza Abbas emphasized that the paintings were not stolen, and the confusion had been resolved.
The majestic artworks were finally returned to Soomro, marking the end of the seven-year saga.
