Russia and China veto US proposal for Gaza ceasefire linked to hostage agreement at UN Security Council.
In the UN Security Council, 11 members supported a US-proposed resolution for a Gaza ceasefire, while three, including Russia and China, voted against it.
Algeria, representing the Arab bloc, also voted against. Guyana abstained.
Russian Ambassador Nebenzia criticized the resolution’s philosophical language and accused US officials of misleading the international community.
US Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire, release of hostages, addressing Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, and supporting US, Egypt, and Qatar-led diplomacy.
