Pakistan Deploys Army for Muharram Security

Federal Government Approves Troop Deployment for Muharram Security

The federal government of Pakistan has approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces (CAF) nationwide to ensure security during Muharram.

According to a notification from the interior ministry, this decision aims to maintain law and order throughout the month, which began on Sunday.

The specifics of troop deployment will be coordinated with relevant authorities, including those in Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad.

The duration of this deployment will be determined later through mutual consultation among all stakeholders.

Additionally, provincial governments, including Punjab, have requested a one-week suspension of social media platforms to prevent the spread of hate material online.

However, the federal government has not yet made a decision regarding this and will consult with the provinces before taking any action, as per the Ministry of Interior’s statement.
