Severe Weather Claims Six Lives in Punjab, PDMA Reports

Lightning and Dust Storm Kill Six in Punjab Province

Six people were killed due to lightning and a dust storm in various areas of Punjab, according to a statement from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Saturday.

A PDMA spokesperson revealed that five others were injured by the dust storm in the province.

The lightning strikes occurred in the Sialkot and Rawalpindi districts, the spokesperson added.

DG Punjab PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia instructed the deputy commissioners of the affected districts to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured.

Kathia also confirmed that the families of the deceased would receive financial assistance.

He stated that all rescue and related institutions were on high alert to handle any emergencies.

The DG PDMA advised citizens to stay in safe locations during severe weather and avoid venturing outside during thunderstorms.

Last month, lightning strikes resulted in at least 24 fatalities in Balochistan and Punjab as heavy rains battered the regions, officials reported.

In a separate statement, the PDMA warned of an impending heatwave in Punjab, expected to last until Monday, with temperatures potentially rising to 45°C to 48°C, as reported by Radio Pakistan.

The PDMA spokesperson noted that the heatwave might be particularly severe in Southern Punjab districts, including Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, DG Khan, and Multan.

All relevant departments have been directed to remain vigilant to address any emergencies. The spokesperson also mentioned that citizens are being informed about the heatwave dangers through media channels.

In case of emergencies, people can contact the PDMA Helpline at 1129 or Rescue 1122.
