PCB Arranges Surgery for Ihsanullah’s Elbow Issue in England
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has opted to conduct an inquiry into its management of fast bowler Ishanullah’s elbow injury.
In an official statement on his verified X account, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced the formation of an independent medical panel tasked with evaluating the handling of Ihsanullah’s medical situation by the board’s medical support team.
The medical board, consisting of Dr. Javed Akram, Dr. Rana Dilawaiz, and Dr. Mumraiz Naqshband, will also propose recommendations for the appropriate medical treatment plan for the fast bowler moving forward.
The PCB chief’s remarks come days after the board confirmed that Ishanullah had left for UK to meet renowned orthopaedic surgeon Professor Adam Watts — who specialises in sports injuries including shoulder and elbow procedures — with regards to regarding his elbow injury.
The 21-year-old, who made his debut in one-day international cricket against New Zealand in April 2023, has been sidelined for a significant period following surgery last year.
However, it appears that the pace bowler continues to experience elbow issues and is scheduled for another surgery in England. Sources indicate that the PCB has arranged all necessary provisions for the bowler’s treatment, with support from Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans’ owner, Ali Tareen.
Questions have arisen regarding the PCB’s management of the bowler’s injury, especially considering the initial misdiagnosis reported by ESPNcricinfo.
However, Dr. Sohail Saleem, head of the PCB’s medical department, refuted any mishandling of Ihsanullah’s case.
“There was no mishandling in this instance,” Dr. Saleem clarified to ESPNcricinfo. “I acknowledge there was a delay in the initial diagnosis, but no mishandling.”
