Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that India holds the entitlement to River Ravi’s water as per a treaty, preventing Pakistan from taking the matter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding India’s “water aggression.”
Tarar emphasized that the 1960 Indus Water Treaty designates River Ravi’s water rights to India, barring any legal intervention against India on this matter.
During discussions in the National Assembly, Tarar clarified that legal avenues cannot be pursued against India over the River Ravi issue due to the treaty in place.
PTI MNA Zartaj Gul criticized Tarar’s stance, highlighting the acceptance of India’s claim over River Ravi. In response, Tarar urged against politicizing legal matters.
Tarar acknowledged the historical significance of water-related conflicts between Pakistan and India, citing the Kishanganga Hydroelectric Project issue where Pakistan secured a favorable outcome.
According to reports from Indian media, the completion of the Shahpur Kandi barrage halted water flow from River Ravi to Pakistan.
