The initiative aims to provide free heart surgery programme for children across Punjab by CM Punjab, expanding access to both government and private hospitals
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif officially launched the “Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Programme” at Lahore’s Children’s Hospital, offering free heart treatment and surgeries for children.
During her visit, she distributed “Child Surgery Cards” to deserving patients, ensuring that surgeries can also be conducted in private hospitals if space is unavailable in public facilities.
She inspected the hospital’s Cardiac Surgery Ward and High Dependency Unit (HDU), interacted with the young patients, and reviewed the available healthcare services.
The Chief Minister expressed her commitment to expanding the program by increasing the number of specialist surgeons and staff to improve the capacity for pediatric heart surgeries in government hospitals.
Initially, the program will provide surgical services in six hospitals across Punjab, including institutions in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi.
In the second phase, the services will extend to additional cities like Wazirabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Sargodha.
Maryam Nawaz also visited the hospital’s play area for children and emphasized that the program is a heartfelt effort to provide comfort to mothers and ensure children receive timely care.
The initiative aims to prevent the annual loss of over 5,000 children due to delayed surgeries, and it will extend care to children from other provinces as well.
