Shan Masood Calls for Improvement After Test Loss

Shan Masood emphasizes learning from England’s approach as Pakistan looks to bounce back following a sixth consecutive defeat on home soil.

Pakistan’s cricket captain, Shan Masood, highlighted the need for his team to learn how to take 20 wickets in a Test match after their innings defeat to England in the series opener in Multan.

Despite a strong start with a score of 556 in their first innings, Pakistan allowed England to post a massive 823-7 declared, leading to an innings and 47-run defeat on the fifth day.

Masood acknowledged England’s ability to find ways to take wickets, even on a flat pitch, and emphasized the importance of his team developing a similar strategy to secure Test victories.

Abrar Ahmed, Pakistan’s bowler, was unable to bat on the final day due to illness, leaving the team one wicket short.

Masood, who took over as Test captain from Babar Azam in November, has yet to secure a win, with six consecutive losses under his leadership.

Pakistan’s current winless streak at home extends to 11 matches, dating back to their victory against South Africa in 2021.

Despite the setbacks, Masood expressed his commitment to turning the situation around, taking responsibility for the team’s performance.

He expressed hope for improvement in the upcoming match, which starts on Tuesday, and welcomed the opportunity for a quick comeback.

“The quick turnaround might be quite beneficial for us, and we’re all looking forward to it,” he said, emphasizing the resilience needed to change the team’s fortunes.
