Trump Plans Meeting with Indian PM Modi During His Upcoming US Visit

The former US president Trump announces the meeting while criticizing India on trade, praising Modi as “fantastic.”

During a campaign event in Michigan on Tuesday, former US president Donald Trump revealed plans to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week during Modi’s visit to the United States.

While criticizing India as a “very big abuser” of trade, Trump called Modi “fantastic” and mentioned their upcoming meeting without providing further details.

Modi’s visit is centered around attending the Quad Leaders summit in Wilmington, Delaware, alongside President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.

The Quad grouping, revived under Biden’s leadership, aims to strengthen international alliances, particularly to counter China.

This summit will be Biden’s last with the group, as he has chosen not to run for another term, with Vice President Kamala Harris leading the Democratic ticket.

Modi is also set to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York and will meet with members of the Indian community.

Despite no longer being in office, Trump continues to engage with world leaders, having met Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban earlier this year in Florida.
